Michels, Norbert J.Norbert James Michels, 99, Marshfield, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care, Marshfield. He had been a resident there since July, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, where the visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time. Rev. Eric Berns will officiate. Burial will take place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. Norbert Michels was born on October 30, 1917 in Marshfield, the son of William and Sophie Michels. He married Marion Hankey on October 5, 1943 at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Michels' celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Marion preceded him in death on October 26, 1996. Norbert was employed at Rollohome Corporation from 1952 until his retirement as Assistant Plant Supervisor in 1982. Following retirement, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. His pride and joy were his hybrid raspberries which won acclaims from neighbors and even a front page picture in the Marshfield News Herald. He also enjoyed dancing. He is survived by his son, Fredrick (Sue) Michels of 510 Augusta Street, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan; 49783; two grandchildren, Heidi (Jared) Hanna of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Mark Michels of Sault Sainte Marie; and a daughter-in-law, Saveria Michels of Marshfield. He is also survived by his special companion, Marlous Gonering of Marshfield, a sister-in-law, Hazel Wold and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Marion, Norbert was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Victor (Saveria) Michels in 2011 and siblings, Victor Michels, Irene (Art) Treichel, Edna (Marvin) Pilsner and Dorothy (Art) Schmidt. He very much appreciated the many cards, letters, prayers and visits by relatives and friends. Memorials in his name may be made to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church or the Hannah Center.
