Norma Simmons HarrisKEITHVILLE, LA - Norma Simmons Harris, a long-time resident of the Shreveport area, entered into Heaven, Tuesday, August 8, 2017.Norma was born on June 12, 1932, in Kerens, Texas to Calvin and Minnie Simmons. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston, Texas in 1949. She received her B.A. in Education from LSUS in 1976, M. Ed in Library Science from Northwestern State University in 1981, and her Master's Plus 30 Graduate hours. She enjoyed many years as an elementary school librarian until her retirement. She was an active member of ADK and also served for a term as President.Norma was an avid reader and bridge player. She enjoyed being a member of her Sunday School class at Emmanuel Baptist Church, entertaining in her home, camping with friends, and traveling the world with her husband, Bill. She was a Silver Spur Mom while her girls attended Southwood High School in the 1970's. She looked forward to "the girls' shopping trip" each year.Norma is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wayne "Bo" Simmons, and her husband, Bill Harris. Norma and Bill celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary in May 2007 prior to Bill's death in December of that same year.Norma is survived by her daughters, Sheri Gault (Jeff) of Keithville, and Danna Mabry (Rusty) of Ruston. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry Simmons (Betty) of Boerne, Texas; sister, Linda Grayson (Richard) of Spring Branch, Texas; sister-in-law, Mary Wachtel (Kent) of Burnet, Texas; and her loving grandchildren, Cade Gault of Keithville, Caroline Gault Hand (Kyle) of Shreveport, Riley Mabry (Jessica) of Houston, Texas, and Dan Mabry of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her special daughter, Sanna Leigh of Houston, Texas; special grandchildren, Jennifer and John Gault of Shreveport; special great-granddaughter, Reillie Hand; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road Shreveport, Louisiana on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A family graveside service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Buck Furlow officiating.
