Norman Jonathan Berry, Jr. of Sterling, Colorado passed away on Dec. 6, 2016 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, December 13, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Reverend Brian Kroeger officiating. Norman was born on June 22, 1929 in Rochester, New Hampshire to Norman J., Sr. and Dorothy (Burpee) Berry. He earned his Master's degree in Geology from the University of Oregon. Norman was an instructor at NJC for over thirty years. He also worked as a geologist for Texaco, and was a professor at Colorado State University. Norman married Patricia C. Cortez on March 28, 1953 in Durham, New Hampshire. He served as a 1 St Lt. in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1954. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and a church volunteer. He sang in the church choir for many years. He also sang with the Master Chorale and the Sterling Barbershop Chorus. Norman was a collector of coins, stamps, guns, and belt buckles, and an avid collector and builder of model planes, trucks, and trestles. He enjoyed mountain climbing and climbed over twenty-four Colorado peaks. He was a leader of the Math and Science Club, a member of the Model Railroading Club, a motorcycle enthusiast, an avid photographer, and enjoyed cross-country touring. Norman made special trips to the mountains to cut Christmas trees for the church, and loved truckin'! Driving the local school bus for years, and mentoring, reading, and writing books for young adults and children of all ages, were Norman's passions. He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his loving children: daughter, Ruth Berry McHenry of Tampa, Florida; son, Craig Jonathan Berry, and wife Jodi Rita, of Melbourne Beach, Florida; brother, David Berry and wife, Sylvia, of Barrington, New Hampshire, and six grandchildren: Cameron Wynn Berry, Kyle Robert McHenry, Christian Edmund Berry, Nicole Theresa Berry, Curtis Ryan McHenry, and Samuel Ciciro Scarpaci.
