Norman E. JohnsonMANSFIELD: Norman E. Johnson, 90, of Mansfield, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017.Norman was born on October 18, 1926, to Otto C. and Helen B. (Bishop) Johnson. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Norman was known to family and friends as "Stormin' Norman", "Pee Wee" and "Merlyn". He was known for his "Johnson" jokes, and had a story or joke for every occasion. He was a retired steel worker with Empire Reeves for 43 ½ years. He volunteered in Veteran activities, VFW Post 9943 Past Commander, Joint Veterans Council, 10th District Chaplain, Past President and Commodore Loudonville Wildlife Conservation Club, member of Bellville Masonic Lodge 169, Board of Directors for Empire Reeves Credit Union, and active member of First Church of the Brethren. At one time he was Police Chief in Bellville, Richland County Deputy Sheriff, Volunteer Fireman in Bellville, Bellville Fair Board Member, and member of several Veteran groups. He was married to his sweetheart, Lucinda (Yarger) Johnson for over 70 years, and she survives.Along with his wife Lucinda, he is survived by three children, Dean A. (Marnie) Johnson of Gray, TN, Judy D. (Bill) McFee of Mansfield, and Joy L. (Bob) Rosett of Galion; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Pat) Johnson of Galion.Norman was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eugene Johnson; one granddaughter, Helena Johnson; and four siblings, Lowell Johnson, Madeline "Madge" Rogers, Bill Johnson, and Donley Johnson.Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Ave. East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Vaughn Loose officiating. Burial will be in Bellville Cemetery with full military honors.Online condolences may be made at
