Norman Royce LundbergSmithfield - Norman Royce Lundberg, age 86, passed away at Sunshine Terrace on Oct. 30, 2013 due to complications from a fall that left him with a broken hip on Aug. 13, 2013. Royce was born on April 26, 1927, the first of three sons, to Norman and Deana Lundberg of Smithfield, Utah. He attended school in Smithfield and Richmond, Utah graduating from North Cache High School in 1945. After graduating he enlisted in the Navy and served overseas for 1 ½ years in World War II. He was discharged in 1946 when the war ended. On his return home from the navy, the ship he was on went through the Panama Canal, an experience he never forgot.He met Lorraine Taylor from Preston, Idaho on a blind date, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple September 3, 1947. They were blessed with four children, Cathy (Ferris) Jorgensen, Joan (Neil) Painter, Luann (Bob) Kent and Nyle (Shelly) Lundberg. Lorraine passed away September 4, 1986. Dad has two brothers, Doyle Lundberg (deceased), and Hal (Rayna) Lundberg.He married Launa Mae Lusk McFarland Dec. 26, 1986 in Tucson, AZ. She has three children, Sandy (Brent) Kempton, Doug McFarland, and Todd (Monika) McFarland. Together they have 24 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.Royce worked at various businesses in Cache Valley. He worked at Lyman's Conoco in Smithfield for over 20 years, He then went to work for the USU Motor Pool where he retired in 1992. Throughout his career he made many friends, he especially liked driving the shuttle bus for the Aggie games, he loved to visit with people. He served on the Smithfield volunteer fire department for 27 yrs, and on the Smithfield board of adjustments for 6 yrs. He played 3rd base on the Smithfield baseball team and it was the 1st Smithfield team to win the State Championship. He coached a girls softball team which went to Wichita, Kan. for the playoffs. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and racing Homer pigeons. He spent most of his life in Smithfield except for a year when he moved his young family to Salmon, Idaho. He was too homesick to stay so he moved his family back to Smithfield.He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding various positions throughout his life.Royce is survived by his wife Launa, four children, three step children, 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren and one brother. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine, his parents, Norman, and Deana, a grandson, Jason Painter, and his brother, Doyle.The family would like to express thanks to those who provided such great care the last few months, Dr. Todd A. Brown, Dr. Todd R. Grunander, the staff at Sunshine Terrace and Sunshine Hospice. A special thanks to Dave Conger for always being there for our dad, he was a wonderful friend.Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 6, in the Smithfield 5th Ward LDS church, 625 E. 600 South Smithfield, Utah. A viewing will be held on Nov. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home at 162 E. 400 North Logan, Utah, and prior to services on Wednesday at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.Condolences and thoughts may be sent to the family at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
