Norris R. YoungYORKNorris R. Young, 93, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Manor Care South. He was a loving husband for 38 years to Peggy (Snyder) Young of Red Lion.Norris was born on December 19, 1923 in Norfolk, VA to his late parents, Robert and Mina Young. He lived at the Gettysburg Seminary Refectory from 1927 to 1945. Norris left school when he was 18 to apprentice for the Western MD Railroad and a year later was hired on as a locomotive fireman and was promoted to engineer in 1952. During this time period, he was drafted into the Army from October 1946 to April 1947 and worked as a quartermaster. Later he worked on the MD and PA Railroad, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, and the East Washington Railroad in MD. In February 1986, Norris retired from the railroad and began to work at Festival Supermarket in Red Lion until he again retired 11 years later. Norris was a member of the Windsor Assembly of God Church for many years. He loved to take pictures of his railroad years and all the fun moments with Peggy and their family.In addition to his wife, Peggy, Norris is survived by a sister, Elaine Virts and her husband, Earl of South Carolina; a son, Jonathan Young and his wife, Leilani of Cookevile, TN; two step-daughters, Pamela delValle VanZanardi and her husband, Dean and Kandi Snyder Stetler and her husband, Daryl, all of York County; six grandchildren, Larena Braswell and her husband, Michael, Alesha Garcia, Erika Garcia, Jennie Dacheux and her husband, Shawn, Angie Gossard, and Michael Lanius; and 10 great-grandchildren.A Celebration of Life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Windsor Assembly of God Church, 21 N. Penn Street, BOX 340, Windsor, with Pastor, Christopher Golembiowski, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements.
