Nyeland Janzen Newel, dentist, artist, musician, cherished friend, and beloved family member, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016, in Santa Cruz, CA. He was born on September 23, 1978, in San Francisco, CA, to Gail Janzen Newel and Spencer Newel. Nyeland spent most of his childhood years in Fresno, CA, surrounded by his "village", including grandparents, Jeremy and Michael Newel, and Jean and Louis Janzen; and uncle, Peter Janzen. Nyeland learned the joys of being a sibling in his teen years when he became a big brother to Conlin and Madeline. After attending Berkeley High School and Edison High School, he received his Bachelor's degree in art and computer science, at University of California, Santa Cruz. He went on to graduate from SAE Creative Media Institute, and worked in the industry before pursuing a dental career. He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in 2012. Nyeland found great joy in his work at Dientes Community Dental Care, where he was able to serve those most in need in Santa Cruz and Watsonville, CA. His greatest passion was his artistic expression, rapping, writing and producing music, and creating visual art in various media. Famously and infamously known as Howie Loot$, the original 2nd Rate Hustler, he gained notoriety to a global audience. His playful humor, infectious laugh, and true compassion will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Louis Janzen; and aunt, Kimberly Janzen. He is survived by his father Spencer; mother Gail; step-mother, Kelli Beingesser; siblings, Conlin Newel and Madeline Newel; grandmother Jean; grandparents, Michael and Jeremy; step-grandparents, Jerry and Rita Beingesser; aunt, Brooke Frost and husband Dennis; uncle, Scott Newel and wife Diane; aunt, Blair Newel and husband Patrick Bryk; aunt, Melissa Newel; uncle, Scott Janzen and wife Rose Willems; aunt, Jill Janzen and husband Bruno Pegoretti; uncle, Peter Janzen and wife Mary; cousins, Matthew Murbach, Whitney Janzen, Laine Janzen, Luke Janzen, Turner Bryk, Cecily Conour, and Cambell Conour; sweetheart, Charlene Varela; former spouses, Tracy Edwards, and Jacci Peacher; and dog Axel.
