Odessa (Dee) Carr, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother extraordinaire (also known as the Princess of Sass) passed away on August 28, 2023, at the ripe old age of 98. Born on April 5, 1925, in the charming town of Abernathy, Texas, Odessa lived a life that was as colorful as her vibrant personality and as amusing as her infectious laughter.
Odessa was the daughter of Jesse Robertson and Rosa Bearden Robertson, who surely must have possessed an unparalleled sense of humor to have brought such a delightful soul into this world. She has joined her 10 brothers and sisters in heaven and the conversations are lively! She married her soulmate, William Carr, in the year 1945, and together they created a world filled with love, laughter, and jolly mischief.
Odessa and Bill blessed this world with one beautiful child, Susan, who, luckily for them, inherited her mother's wit and charm. Susan tied the knot with Richard King, completing the Carr dynasty and introducing four lovable grandsons into the family. Chad David of Jersey City, NJ, William Tyler and Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC (expecting the first great grandson in a few weeks!) John (Jack) Thomas, of Washington, DC and Nicholas Anthony of Charlotte. Each one had a very special place in her heart.
Odessa's academic journey began at Abernathy High School, where she graduated in 1942. Known for her impeccable homemaking skills, Odessa could whip up a three-course meal out of thin air and turn a swath of fabric into a party dress for Susan. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family, and her delicious dishes and clever banter will be sorely missed.
Odessa defied the laws of aging and maintained her youthful spirit even in her later years. But alas, old age eventually caught up with her, and she departed this world surrounded by love and laughter, leaving behind cherished memories and a trail of giggles that will echo through generations to come.
In honor of Odessa's memory, her family kindly requests that you celebrate her life by sharing a funny story or a happy memory. Let us remember her as she would have wanted – with laughter and a sense of joy, always impeccably dressed and with her jewelry and ‘face on’ like a true southern woman.
