Called Home to Glory

Oletta Johnson, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, passed on June 07, 2020. Oletta was born on January 02, 1936 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late Thomas Mack and Laura Jane (Carter) Hatton. They moved to Union County, New Jersey when she was 3 months old. Oletta attended grade school at Warren School and Grindstone School in Cranford, graduating from Douglas/Hickman High School. She married Clarence Edward Lee Johnson in Essex County, New Jersey on May 14, 1957. Clarence preceded her in death in 2014.

Oletta worked for the Community Center for 35 years, and for the State for 25 years before retiring at age 65.

She was a woman of great faith. She was baptized at Mt. Celestial I of McBaine, Missouri, and was a member of Mt. Celestial II of Columbia, Missouri. Oletta was the “Oldest Mother of the Church”, served on the Missionary board, did work for the Mt. Carmel District attending church functions, traveling to several different churches to assist with the programming and cooking for the church. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, painting, arts & crafts, bingo, reading the bible, growing and canning her own food in her gardens, but most of all, she loved cooking. She cooked for church functions, family gatherings and reunions, always bringing a dish or her homemade wine to the gatherings. She liked wearing white pearls and some kind of hat when dressing up for special occasions. Oletta was a people person. She never met a stranger, made friends wherever she went, loved carnivals, music, and country life. She will truly be missed.

Left behind to cherish her memories are her three sons: William Lee of Columbia, Floyd Lee of Seattle, Washington, James Lee (May) of Columbia, Missouri; four daughters: Lauretta Hatton of Columbia, Barbara Lee (Keith Holmes) of Columbia, Rosetta Lee-McDonald (Cecil McDonald), of Columbia, Deborah Lee (Thomas Kitchen) of Columbia; two siblings: Roger Hatton of Kansas City, Grace Wright (Don) of Columbia; two sisters-in-law: Marie Harrell of Montgomery, Alabama, May Ross of Kansas City, Missouri; twelve grandchildren: Erica, Vandesha (DeShay), Christopher Mack, Harold, Robyn, Keith Jr., Kelvona, Dorthea Paige, Rothanion, Tia, Whitney, Dominick, Alex; two step granddaughters; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews.
