Reading, Olive Marie ("Cappi") Olive Marie ("Cappi") (Sveinsson) passed away peacefully February 20, 2017, surrounded by family & friends in Scottsdale, Arizona at the age of 82. Olive is survived by her husband Walter Reading, her children, Kelly Reading (Beth), Edward Reading (Beverly), Timothy Reading (Tamara), Michael Reading, Ann (Joseph Murphy), Mary (Stan Woessner), her sister Joanie Schmidt and her grandchildren Blake Reading, Kyle Reading, Tatum Lyon, Brooke Dahn (Evan), Drew Reading (Ilyssa), Ryan Reading, Michelle Reading, Mackenzie Reading, Derek Reading, Megan Murphy, Sean Murphy, Austin Woessner, Tyler Woessner and Allie Woessner. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Kelly & Beatrice Sveinsson, her sister Marilyn Chloe Mayhall and brother Sam Sveinsson. Olive was born on November 27, 1934, in Elmhurst, Illinois to John Kelly & Beatrice Sveinsson. She earned her RN degree from Saint Francis Nursing School in Evanston, Illinois in 1955. She continued her education at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she received her midwifery training. After working for several years as an OB/GYN nurse, she "retired" to raise her 6 children before returning to nursing as a volunteer at Kiva Elementary in Scottsdale, Arizona. She married Walter on January 23, 1960. Over the next 11 years, the couple welcomed 6 children into their home and Olive set about raising her brood. Her children remember her as a kind, gentle, sports-minded mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and ambitions and to root for the Cubs, Bears, Fighting Irish, Wildcats and Sun Devils. In addition to nursing, Olive was an accomplished athlete and sports fan. She could recite stats of individual players and teams and never missed a "big" game. She gave generously of her time to numerous civic and charitable organizations, was an active and dedicated member of the Saint Maria Goretti Catholic church and brightened the day for everyone she encountered. A viewing will be held Thursday February 23 at Messenger Mortuary (7601 E. Indian School Road) from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 am Friday February 24 at Saint Maria Goretti Church (6261 N. Granite Reef Road), with a reception to follow. Father Thomas J. Hallsten and Deacon Louis Cornille will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Olive's life.
