Oliver CarrollPoughkeepsie - On Thursday, January 5, 2017, God welcomed his son, Mr. Oliver Carroll, home to glory. Oliver was born on April 6, 1939 to his parents, the late Owen Oliver Carroll and Nancy Carroll nee Royal. He was raised in Clinton, NC. He graduated from Sampson High School in North Carolina, Class of 1952.He moved to upstate New York following his older brother Joseph. Before returning to North Carolina he made a stop in Poughkeepsie to visit his sister Ruby and decided to stay. Initially he worked for The State of New York and was part-time cab driver. He met the love of his life, Rachel, and this spring they would have celebrated 56 years of marriage. After leaving the State, Oliver began his career for the United States Postal Service as a Distribution Clerk at the Main Street Office in 1965. During his career, he continued his education at the Academy of Postal Administration, which offered him many opportunities with the service including: Claims & Inquiry Clerk, Mail Processing Supervisor, Accounts Manager, and Postal System Examiner. His position as Postal Systems Examiner enabled him to use his driving skills as he visited over 225 postal facilities conducting audits. He dedicated much of his life to giving back especially to his family. He was affectionately known as 'The Traveler' because he would travel anywhere to support his families both Carroll and King. He even took family into his home during times of illness or tragedy. Not to mention the many years that Thanksgiving was hosted at the Carroll Home in Poughkeepsie, NY. He enjoyed sitting in his living room watching his favorite teams, the New York Jets and New York Mets. He loved to tell stories and we enjoyed hearing them.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph, Rufus, Hubert, Luther, Rosa, Ruby, Jerry, Bennie and George.
