Olivia CoilWindsor HeightsOlivia Ann Coil, 69, of Windsor Heights, IA passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.Olivia was born on August 31, 1947 in Wichita, KS to Fred and Carmen Torres. She met the love of her life Gary Coil in San Diego where they married in March 1980. Most of her career she worked for educational institutions and municipalities, including San Diego Community College, City of Yuma, AZ and City of Waverly, IA. She loved the 11 years working for and learning from her colleagues in the Humanities Department at Wartburg College in Waverly. Upon moving to Des Moines, IA in 2001, Olivia worked for the West Des Moines Police Department. She also enjoyed her work as an interpreter in the Des Moines metropolitan area.Olivia was an avid reader and excellent cook. She was always thoughtful, kind and considerate to all she met, and had a quick wit and sharp tongue (when necessary). Most of all, she was a great mother and loving wife. Olivia is survived by her husband, Gary Coil; children, Jarred Coil and Yolanda Coil (David Wallace); sisters, Marty Hepler, Elizabeth (Pete) Lekas; brother, Steve (Terry) Torres; grandchildren, Journi and Sebastian; and feline children, Bobbi and Tomasito. Olivia was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Carmen Torres. A memorial service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 4th, 2017 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory in Urbandale, followed by a luncheon "Celebration of Life" at the Machine Shed Restaurant . Her ashes will be buried at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.
