Mrs. Opal Susan Woodard Graybeal of West Jefferson, died on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson. She was 92.
Mrs. Graybeal was born on Jan. 6, 1921, in Ashe County to Noah Samuel and Hattie Arnold Woodard.
Mrs. Graybeal was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wade Denton Graybeal; daughter, Donna Jean Combs; son, David Graybeal; granddaughter, Bridget Dunn; sister, Ruby Potter; brother, Ulysses Samuel Grant; and special friend, Nell Sutherland.
Mrs. Graybeal loved to garden and work in her flowers. She retired from Sprague Electric and after retirement she worked at Ashe Services for the Aging.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Herbert McCoy and Rev. Steve LeaShomb. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Graybeal is survived by three daughters, Judy Roark and husband Jerry of Jefferson, Arwanna Watson and husband Talmage of Warrensville, Shirley Dunn and husband Boyd of Butler, Tenn.; one son, Joseph Graybeal of West Jefferson; two brothers, John Woodard, and Raymond Woodard, both of Mountain City, Tenn.; two sisters, Virginia Phillips, and Pearl Osborne of West Jefferson; special caregiver, Linda Reavis; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
