MINK CREEK - Opal Smith McKay, 74, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. She was born on Dec. 24, 1935, in Riverdale, Idaho, to Samuel Line and Minnie Matilda Hansen Smith. Opal was raised on the Bear River where fishing became her favorite pastime. She enjoyed many hunting trips with her brothers and father. Opal really enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball while growing up. She married Merlin R. McKay on Dec. 11, 1959 in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived their dreams together on the family farm in Mink Creek. She loved all the wild animals that called the farm home. She loved sunsets, rain storms, and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.She is survived by her husband, Merlin, of Mink Creek; her sons, Lin (Sharla) McKay and Paul (Terrie) McKay, of Mink Creek; sisters, Odessa McGregor and Relda (Robert) McGregor, of Thatcher, Idaho; sister-in-law, Arda Smith, of Riverdale, Idaho; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as siblings, Hugo Smith, Joyce, Smith, Dean Smith, Theo Smith and Dave Smith. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Mink Creek LDS chapel with Bishop Kent Egley conducting. A viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 S. 800 East, Preston, and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church in Mink Creek.
