Orlando Vaughn, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024 in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He was born on August 1, 1972 to Morocco and Latosha Vaughn.
Orlando was a dedicated father to his seven children: Sheila, Jazmine, Ransom, Ralanda, Orlando Jr., Tatyana, and Mykel. He was also a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren.
Orlando also had three brothers: myself, Morocco Vaughn, Chris McVey, and David Jones Jr. And let's not forget his three sisters: Sharmila Vaughn, Latosha, and Kemba Carter. He was surrounded by uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and very close friends who were like family to him.
He loved his nieces and nephews dearly, always taking the time to make them laugh and feel special. Orlando lived in the Auburn Gresham and Rogers Park neighborhoods, where he made many lasting friendships. He was an incredible chess player, often spending hours at the board, outsmarting his opponents with a grin. He loved the game and the mental challenge it brought, reflecting his strategic mind and patience. Orlando was a professional barber, a craft he excelled at with pride and precision.
His talent even landed him a spot on television, where he was featured for his work grooming inmates at Cook County Jail. It was a testament to his skill and his belief in bringing dignity and respect to everyone he encountered, no matter their circumstances. Orlando faced his battle with cancer with the same courage and humor that defined his life. Even when things got tough, he found ways to make us laugh and stay positive. He also overcame a significant battle with drug addiction.
His strength and determination to turn his life around were truly Inspiring. He became a beacon of hope and resilience, showing us all that it's never too late to change and find your way back. Orlando was charismatic and had a way with words. He could talk you into anything, and you'd find yourself saying "yes" with a smile, wondering how he managed to convince you, His charm was Irresistible, and his enthusiasm was infectious.
He had a love for music, and his favorite song was "Smile" by Tupac featuring Scarface. That song's message of perseverance and finding joy in the midst of struggle resonated deeply with him. You know, Orlando could always make you laugh, His mother, Jennifer Vaughn, and his father, David Jones, preceded him in death, and he cherished both deeply. They played a significant role in shaping the wonderful person he became, and their memory lived on through him. Orlando, like all of us, had his shortcomings. He didn't always spend as much time with his children as he wished, but he loved them all deeply. His heart was always with them, and he cherished every moment they had together. We remember him for his love, his laughter, and his ability to bring joy into our lives,
Orlando will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for his family, and his unwavering strength in the face of adversity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
