Dahlke, OrtwinOrtwin William Albert Dahlke, 85, Luxemburg, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, September 11, 2016. He was born on January 6, 1931 in the Town of Montpelier, to the late Edwin and Edna (Treptow) Dahlke. He grew up and worked on the family farm. He graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1949. Shortly after he was drafted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg. Upon his return from deployment, he continued farming until his retirement in 1997. On July 18, 1964, Ortwin married Lois Swartz at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Greenville, Michigan. Ortwin enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds and tending to his bird feeders. Ortwin was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montpelier, he enjoyed singing in the church choir and began when he was fourteen years of age. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Ortwin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois, their children and spouses, Sherry (Rob) Byrne, Scott Dahlke, Cindy (Doug) Doell, Todd (April) Dahlke, all of Luxemburg; Darrell (Annette) Dahlke Green Bay; nine grandchildren, Nate and Allie Byrne; Hayley, Trent and Gaby Doell; Dylan and Evan Dahlke; Cole and Brynn Dahlke; one sister Bernice Gruetzmacher, Luxemburg; one sister in law, Helen Harms, Greenville, Michigan; nieces and nephews. Ortwin was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon; two brothers in law, Hilbert Gruetzmacher and Donovan Harms. Friends may call 4:00 to 8:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Montpelier, on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. Parish prayer service 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Visitation will continue between 9:30 and 10:40 am, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Montpelier. Funeral 11:00 am on Thursday with Rev. Dr. Daniel Olson officiating.
