OSCAR HERNANDEZ-CRUZ Obituary

Oct 08, 1935 - Oct 14, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Our Beloved Oscar "Mayeya" Hernandez-Cruz, 81, passed away on October 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 8, 1935 in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico to Ignacio Hernandez and Felicitas Cruz. Oscar is survived by his loving Wife of 59 years Esther Hernandez Silva, Children: Oscar Hernandez (Virginia), Jorge Hernandez (Mary), Ivonne LaRu (Jimmy), and Virginia Block (Toby); Brother: Jesus Hernandez, 11 Grandchildren, and 21 Great-Great Grandchildren. He started his career by relocating to Los Angeles, California where he worked in manufacturing as an equipment operator but quickly moved up to become the first hispanic night shift supervisor at Holga Sheet Metal Manufacturing Inc. His work ethic and determination are attributes that his sons and daughters carry on today. In 1957 he married the girl of his dreams and faithful loving spouse of 59 wonderful years. From this beautiful union they gave life to 2 boys and 2 girls. As fate would have it, he would become permanently disabled from a spinal injury suffered while performing duties at his job. Although devastated by this misfortune, he regrouped and with help of his adoring wife and children he continued to be the pillar of the family. Moving back to El Paso in 1970, he started his next chapter of his life while in wheel chair picking himself up and always striving for better conditions for his family. Oscar was firm and taught us the value of hard work and education. Oscar was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and faithfully served the Catholic Church for over 20 years. He spearheaded numerous Bazars at both Corpus Christi Catholic Community Church, and St. Peter & St. Paul Catholic Church. Oscar was an Honorary Member of "Peace & Justice at Corpus Christi Catholic Community". He was a great Husband, Father, and Friend to all who knew him. Oscar will never be forgotten and will always live in our hearts. Anyone that was fortunate to come in contact with him will remember him for the Great Man he was, and he will missed every day for the rest of our lives… WE LOVE YOU, DAD!! Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 5-9pm at Hillcrest with a Vigil at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11am at Corpus Christi Church with an Inurement to follow at a later date at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr; 915-598-3332.
