Ovel McKeeMrs. Ovel Johnson McKee, 89, of Pitkin, LA passed Sunday, November 20, 2016. She was born on October 15, 1927, to Louis and Delaney Bass Johnson in Johnsonville, LA. She was a lifelong member of Vernon Parish and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Pitkin. Mrs. McKee was the post master in Fullerton and she retired in 1989. She managed her personal cattle farm and loved cooking for everyone. She canned and sold jellies, jams and fig preserves all over the world, they have been shipped to China, Japan and Russia, she also sold 55 cases a year for many years to a local store owner in New Orleans, who would buy her figs and sale them in his shop. She loved to sew and quilt. Mrs. McKee made many bonnets and quilted some of the most beautiful quilts you would ever see. Her quilts have kept many folks warm on a cold winter's night. Most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and family. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.Mrs. McKee was preceded in death by her husband Joseph McKee; parents, Louis and Delaney Bass Johnson; brothers, Huel Johnson, Jay Johnson, Mixson Johnson and Neal Johnson; sisters Vertie Johnson Swain, and Evelyn Johnson Goins.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lezlie Dawn Midkiff and husband, Shannon; grandchildren, Kirsten Amber Midkiff and Kagen Andrew Midkiff, along with numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2016, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville and again on Saturday, November 26, 2016 from 8:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM with Rev. Jeremy McCrory and Rev. Arlen Smith officiating. Those honoring Mrs. McKee as pallbearers will be, Ray Dufour, Bane Johnson, David Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Dimikol Coker, and David Shepard.
