Oct 05, 1928 - Jan 30, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Patricia Jean (Allison) Shofestall, age 88, of Corsica, passed away as a guest of the McKinley Health Center on Sunday, July 30, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Patricia was born on October 4, 1928, to the late Roy C. and Daisy (Mong) Allison, in Limestone. On June 30, 1950, Pat married her High School sweetheart, Edgar D. Shofestall. They just celebrated their 67th anniversary, as Ed survives her. They were the first couple to be married in the Greenville Presbyterian Church in Limestone. She was a member of the Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica, where she served as the first female Elder. She also served as Sunday School superintendent, and taught Bible school. Pat was very proud of her family history, and the fact that her ancestors were one of the early families to settle in Clarion County just outside of Limestone, where they established a homestead that remains in the family today. As a young girl, Pat attended a one room school house in Limestone and later graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School. She continued her education at the Clarion State College, and graduated with a teaching degree at the age of 20. Ed and Pat purchased an old farmhouse just outside of Corsica shortly after they were married. They worked together using their talents in creating a beautiful and loving home for their family. Pat was very devoted to her family and believed it was very important to keep a neat and tidy home; everything had a place, and she would maintain it perfectly. She was very particular about the areas she was responsible for maintaining, including her class room; she never left without it ready for the next day, or a possible substitute. Pat taught for 33 years including Altoona, DuBois, Corsica, while spending most of her career at Clarion-Limestone Elementary. In the 1987-88 school year, she won the Teacher-of-the-Year award. She saved many letters from the children that she influenced throughout the years, many of whom were inspired to become teachers because of her example. She used her love for teaching to touch her many students, Sunday School children, and her own children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and the memories she made with her family. She especially loved the holidays and setting up her beloved Dickens Village. She liked old western movies, and she had a talent for playing the piano, of which she never took lessons, and she played beautifully by ear. The only football team that mattered was the Steelers, and the greatest player to ever be on the team was Hines Ward. Through her efforts, she affected many people positively in their lives, and as a result, she will be missed by many. In addition to her husband Ed, Pat is survived by 2 sons, Daniel (Linda) Shofestall of Summerville and Jay (Maju) Shofestall of Austin, TX; 2 daughters; Suzanne (Jerry) Johnston of Brookville and Jane Shofestall of Brookville; 1 brother, Robert Allison of Fairmount City; 1 sister, Yvonne Stewart of Xenia, OH; 2 grandsons, Rick (Tori) Simpson and Chris Shofestall; 3 granddaughters, JoAnne (Rudy) Diaz, Laura (David) Hills and Annette Johnston; 4 great-grandchildren, Jarod, Abby, Rya, Aurora and her beloved cat, Patsy. She is also survived by a large extended family including numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. In addition to her parents, Pat is preceded in death by 1 brother, Lee Allison. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, August 3, 2017, from 4 – 7 pm, at the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825. A second opportunity for viewing will take place on Friday, August 4, 2017, at the Pisgah Presbyterian Church, 36 Church St., Corsica, PA, 15829, from 10 – 11 am. A funeral service will immediately follow the second viewing, beginning at 11:00 am, and officiated by Rev. James Dietrich. Interment will take place at the Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica, Jefferson Co., PA. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the , or to the Memory Support Unit at the McKinley Health Center, in Laurelbrooke Landing.
