Patricia Monnet Maddux September 29, 1924 - November 24, 2016 Macon, GA- Patricia Monnet Maddux, 92, died peacefully on November 24, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Christ Episcopal Church. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 538 Walnut Street, Macon, GA 31201 or the donor's preferred charity. The daughter of Eugene Orton Monnet and Vera Darrough Monnet, Patty was born on September 29, 1924 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up with her siblings Burford Darrough Monnet, Edward Orton Monnet, and Gloria Monnet Nicholson, and survived the Great Depression with a resourcefulness that continued throughout her life. She attended Holland Hall and graduated from Central High School in 1941. Patty pledged Kappa Alpha Theta at University of Oklahoma in 1942, and graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor's degree from the School of Arts and Sciences. Patty worked at Stanland Oil Company and Amerada Oil Company. After World War II, when universities were pressed for living quarters, a young Richard Henry Maddux rented a room at the Monnet home while he attended University of Tulsa. Richard grew to know them well and was fondly considered part of the family. He soon swept Patty off her feet after she broke off her previous engagement. On November 13, 1948, the couple married in Tulsa and moved to Macon, Georgia after a honeymoon in New Orleans. They maintained a loving, close relationship with each of their three children, Richard Henry Maddux, Jr. of Kinston, NC; Eugene Monnet Maddux and his wife Valli McLemore Maddux of Smarr, GA; and Melanie Maddux of Tulsa, OK. Patty was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Macon, and was a devoted member of the Episcopal Church Women. She was active in the Junior League of Macon, Hill and Dale Garden Club, and Idle Hour Country Club. Always known to celebrate holidays and meaningful occasions memorably, she especially enjoyed hosting grand affairs, dinner parties, and bridge club gatherings. Quite the organizer, Patty enjoyed playing countless hands in her bridge club for over 50 years. Her rug making group, the "Hookers", prided themselves on hooking rugs and sewing under that title long before the name came to be used in a different way. Patty's heart swelled at the opportunity to give to others. She knitted caps and weaved sleeping mats for those in need. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. She loved to travel and saw countless beautiful and exotic places, from which she often brought home treasured finds, constantly adding to her collection of memories from all over the world. Patty and Richard particularly enjoyed London where they rented a flat every fall for more than 20 years. Perhaps her greatest joy was doting on her four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Richard Henry Maddux III and his wife Susannah Cox Maddux and their daughter Katherine Jayne Maddux, Julian Reid Maddux II and his wife Loren Weatherly Maddux, Elizabeth Cooper Maddux, and Katherine Monnet Maddux. She was lovingly cared for by caregivers Sabrina Davis, Nell Holmes, and Loretta Swint. Register online at www.hartsmort.com. Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola has charge of arrangements.
