Patricia Nelson Weed of Buffalo Creek passed away on Nov. 11, 2015.Pat was born on Nov. 1, 1943, in Waukesha, Wis. She grew up in Racine, Wis., the second of Harold and Valerie Nelson's five children.  She came of age during the civil rights movement, and as a teenager and young woman worked in inner-city settlement houses. Pat was a graduate of Hanover College, where she met Frank "Jerry" Weed, whom she married in 1966. She received her master of social work degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and went on to work with foster children and pregnant convicts, and physical-rehabilitation and organ-transplant patients. Pat also volunteered with political campaigns, in schools and libraries, and served on the Texas governor's special committee on "The Family Role in Reducing Recidivism." She was at the center of the extended Nelson family, looking out for younger siblings, organizing reunions and celebrations, and doing elder care. Frank brought Pat to his family home in Buffalo Creek, and she fell in love with area. She loved the birds and wildflowers, picking raspberries for jam, baking bread and rhubarb pies, and enjoying the views. Pat and Frank retired to Buffalo Creek in 2008, after more than 30 years in Arlington, Texas. Pat attended First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in Fort Worth, and Jefferson Unitarian Church in Golden. Pat's ashes will be buried in Buffalo Creek next to those of her beloved husband, who passed away in 2014.  She is survived by her daughters Teresa Weed and Sarah Chandler; grandsons Charles "Quinn" and William Chandler; her siblings, Eugene Nelson, Judith Baker, Margaret Nelson and Vicki Saunders; as well as many precious in-laws, an uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.A memorial will be held at the Little Chapel in the Hills in the summer of 2016. For information, please send an e-mail to: [email protected].In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Buffalo Park Improvement Association, P.O.
