BALLINGER - Patsy Juanita Stokes, 82, of Florence, formerly of Ballinger, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on March 2, 1924, in Stacy, Texas, to Sam and Winnie Smith. She graduated from Gouldbusk High School and later married Irvin D. Stokes on Dec. 31, 1943. Patsy loved her family and friends. She was a homemaker and worked in retail sales. She also owned and operated Granny's Rags in Ballinger in the 1980s. Her door was always open to those in need. Anyone who needed a shoulder to lean on, a place to live, food or clothing, were welcomed at the Stokes' house with open arms and love. She was a great cook and loved her family and friends to sit at the kitchen table, talking about old times and playing dominoes. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brother, Ervin Smith; her sisters, Johnnie Mayo and Gordie Coffee; and a sister-in-law, Nello Smith. Patsy is survived by her daughter, Patricia Shields and husband Mark of Florence, Texas; her sons, Sam Stokes and wife Shelia of San Angelo, Butch Stokes and wife Leah of Llano, and Doug Stokes and wife Natasha of Boerne; a sister-in-law, Mattie Johnson of Boerne; 11 grandchildren, Dusty Stokes, Samuel Hobbs of Florence, Texas, Patti Hammock and fiance Steven Giddings of Florence, Courtney Hambright and husband James of San Antonio, Chelsey Stokes of Boerne, Kirby Stokes of San Angelo, Samantha Stokes of San Angelo, Traci Majors and husband Brent of San Angelo, Shelly Long and husband Scott of Sterling City, Michael Stokes of Knoxville, Tenn., and Christie Lipps and husband Steve of Washington, Ill.; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Lange Funeral Home in Ballinger. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, in Lange Funeral Home chapel with Max Pratt officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. She will be greatly missed.
