Sep 17, 1929 - Apr 01, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Patsy N. Jansenaged 87, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully at her home at Marquette Manor, on April 1, 2017. Patsy was born on September 17, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the only child of Clyde and Alberta Nichols, but spent most of her early life in Vincennes, graduating from Lincoln High School as well as Vincennes University. She later completed accounting and business degrees from Indiana University Business School in Bloomington where she met her lifelong love and husband of 56 years, C. Howard Jansen with whom built her family and her life in Indianapolis.A recognized class queen and beauty, gifted artist, beautiful mind and mother, she thrived in her family affairs as well as business and the creative processes: drawing, painting, ikebana, culinary, interior design, architecture and the vocal and musical arts. At the same time, she was completely committed to her husband and family, lived an enormous work ethic and sense of integrity and always carried herself and led others in being the best person possible. She was proud and very mindful of the fact that she was nearly the lone woman in her university business studies - long before being a professional woman became possible or popular. She was as comfortable in the Board room as she was in the family room, behind a mike, easel, piano keyboard or just digging in the garden. She will be remembered by all for her lovely soprano voice - most often heard self accompanied by her piano at home or from the main balcony on Sunday morning church services. She is most likely, even now, still singing in her new heavenly home. To all of that add the ever present twinkle in her eye, her caring soul and her beautiful smile and you had Patsy Jansen. She was a life-time member and elder of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church and its choir in Indianapolis as well as an active member of Stansfield Circle, the Indianapolis Art Museum and many other social, travel, art and philanthropic organizations in the city. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Howard Jansen, and her parents, Clyde and Alberta Nichols, all of Indianapolis, and Mark Jansen, her eldest son, who had resided in Boulder, Colorado.Survivors include her youngest son, Erik N. Jansen, and his three children, Charlie, Anika and Jill Jansen, all of whom who reside in Seattle, Washington.Visitation for all will be held at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, 418 E. 34th St, Indianapolis, IN on April 12, 2017 from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place there immediately afterwards. Graveside services are planned at approximately 3:30 at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road in Indianapolis. A casual reception and early supper will follow nearby. It was her wish that in lieu of flowers or other floral remembrances, donations be directed toward Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, the Marquette Foundation in Indianapolis, Vincennes University or the donor's choice.Arrangements have been entrusted to Shirley Brothers Mortuary. www.shirleybrothers.com
