Paul Celsus DurbinZANESVILLE: Paul Celsus Durbin, 87, of Zanesville, passed away at 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Forest View Health Campus with his loving wife by his side.He was born on July 28, 1925, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, a son of the late Judson and Drusilla (Simpson) Durbin. He had worked as a supervisor/salesman for Standard Oil/BP. He also worked at St. Luke's Catholic Church as a janitor. He was a member of the St. Luke's Catholic Church in Danville, Ohio and the American Legion. He served our country and protected our freedom by serving in the United States Air Force. He loved to ride his jet ski on the Ohio River where he was affectionately known as the "Harbor Master" at the Athens Boat and Ski Club in Hocking Port, Ohio. In 1956, he found a "diamond in the rough" near Danville, Ohio, to make a home. Through years of careful cultivating, he created what he called a "gentleman's farm," but what was really a beautiful property with a well-stocked pond. He built several ponds in Knox County, most of which are still wonders of nature. He was a graduate of Howard High School in Howard, Ohio. Surviving are his wife, Janice (Adams) Durbin of the home; their children, Kimberly (Donald) Carter, Lynda Gibson, Jim Schaumleffel, Dustin Gibson, Amanda Moerch, Bernard (Patricia) Durbin, Dennis (Janice) Durbin, Ann (Dave) Hendren, Donald (Karen) Durbin, Margaret Moore, George (Marcia) Durbin, Rebecca Durbin, James (Pam Lacy) Durbin, Brenda (Eric) Stutz, Steven (Crystal) Durbin, Megan Durbin, and Emily (Matt) Remillard; 33 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Francis (Cora) Durbin; a sister-in-law, Monica Durbin, and a daughter-in-law, Marta Durbin.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lauretta (Blubaugh) Durbin; sons, David and Philip Durbin; brothers, Donald, Reverend Clarence, and Hugh Durbin; sister, Helena Durbin; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Fred Stiers; and mother and father-in-law, Verna and Charles Adams.Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2013 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the funeral home with Deacon Bob Ghiloni officiating. Paul will be laid to rest in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
