Paul "Diablo" Maes, 56, a resident of Cleveland, went to meet our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 29, 2014. He was born on Oct. 21, 1957, to Annie Booth and the late Daniel Maes. Paul spent all his time and money taking care of his beautiful horses, which were his life. He could often be seen hitch-hiking on Highway 518 between Mora and Las Vegas. Throughout his life, Paul did mechanic work. Despite not having a formal education, he could fix just about any kind of vehicle from classic cars to semi trucks.He enjoyed spending time in the mountains and could be depended on to assist hunters in locating deer or elk during the hunting season. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed spending time with others. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Daniel Maes; and brothers, Daniel Jr., Ross, and Joseph Maes. He is survived by his mother, Annie Martinez of Las Vegas; son, Paul Maes of Las Vegas; daughter, Cheryl Maestas and boyfriend, Ernesto Sandoval, of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Santiago, Joaquin, Esperanza, Ernesto Jr., and Jeremiah, all of Las Vegas. His very close friend and role model, Lawrence Bachicha and wife, Della, of Las Vegas; and great friend Richard Conway and girlfriend, Jennifer, of Las Vegas. Surviving siblings include: Felix Maes and Bennie Maes of Cleveland, Sebastian Maes and Carlos Maes of Las Vegas, Linda Feaselman of Loveland, Colo., Theresa Lopez and husband, John, of Safford, Ariz., and Juanita Kentfield and husband, Mitch, of Cheyenne, Wyo. He also had numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation is being conducted by Cremation Specialists of New Mexico. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Methodist Church at 715 National in Las Vegas.
