Fisher, Paul H., 84, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 30, 2017, after a long battle with heart disease and diabetes. Paul was a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother. He was a devout Catholic by faith and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Ukranian Catholic Church in Wheeling, WV and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. and Anna D. Fischer, brother Roy Fischer, and sister Marietta (Fischer) King. Surviving are his children: Christopher (Karen) of Fairfield, OH, Tracy (Melinda) of Largo, FL and Amy ( John) of Hertford, NC and their mother, Barbara Jasko Lohr. Also, surviving are his grandchildren, Katherine and Zachary of Fairfield, OH, and sisters Norma Clark of Cumming ,GA, Nancy "Joann" Orr, and Connie White both of Wheeling, WV. Paul was also uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Paul was a 1951 graduate of Wheeling High School and attended West Liberty State University before joining the US Army. While in the Army he trained as an International Speed Radio Operator. Paul received 2 service medals (OCC Medal/ Germany and the National Defense SVC Medal). As a civilian Paul began his career in the area of radio and TV. He was a favorite local DJ during the 50's and 60's and weekend anchor on WTRF-TV channel 7.
Later Paul joined and worked in construction for the Laborers Local #1149 and became his own independent contractor. He continued to enjoy radio airtime reading commercials for local businesses.
Paul loved to sing. He sang with his longtime friend Bob Nesbitt and his Big Band Show for many local special events. He was also an avid golfer and played every chance he got. He played most course within a 50-mile radius but his favorite was always Oglebay Park and his regular Sunday tee time with friends Eddie and Roger.
Paul loved his family and treasured family gatherings. He will be remembered for his distinct laugh and sense of humor.
Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them. Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
