Kliner, Paul J.Portage - Paul J. Kliner, age 95, of Portage, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2017. His beloved wife of 67 years was by his side.Paul was born on April 1, 1922, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, the son of Victor and Emma (Husar) Kliner. He grew up on a small farm at the edge of town. Paul's first job paid 10 cents per hour. He proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force during
World War II. Commissioned as a bombardier/navigator on a B-17, his plane was shot-down on a mission over Germany on August 25, 1944. He attended UW-Madison on the GI Bill, graduating in 1949. He then married Marcy Fehrenbach on September 24, 1949, in Marshfield. Paul worked for the J.C. Penney Company from 1949 to 1982, managing stores in three states. Paul was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus,
VFW, and
Elks Lodge. He enjoyed team sports, and had a passion for fishing which he passed on to his sons.He is survived by his wife, Marcy of Portage; sons, Tom (Wanita) Kliner of Marshfield, Greg (Tayanna) Kliner of Baraboo, Dick (Susan) Kliner of Arvada, CO; grandchildren, Tim Kliner, Jeff Kliner, and Julie Kliner, all of Marshfield, Brandon (Kristin Puryear) Kliner of Cedar Park, TX, Emily (Patrick Zimmer) Kliner of Denver, CO, Alison Kliner of Milwaukee; one great-granddaughter, Kinley Kliner of Cedar Park, TX; other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and brother.Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at 1:30 PM, with Fr. Gary Krahenbuhl presiding. Military honors will be provided at the church by the Portage Area Veterans Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield, Wisconsin, on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at 1:30 PM.
