Paul KanterCamarillo, CAJuly 12, 1948 - March 1, 2017Paul Kanter passed away at home on March 1, 2017 after a long bout with cancer. He was born on July 12, 1948 in Culver City as the only child to Ruben and Gertrude Kanter. Paul was 69.Paul taught physics and chemistry at Agoura High School for over 40 years. Students enjoyed his unique gift for explaining complex science problems in such a way that they could understand. His passion for teaching motivated him to teach well into his retirement and into the early days of his treatment.Paul loved to tell stories with his guitar and has amassed a long library of his own original music. He was influenced by Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot, and you can truly hear Paul's soul speaking as he intertwined finger picking and storytelling.Paul loved nature. In his youth he was an avid backpacker and explored the country's national parks and mountain ranges to find his peace in the high country. As his family grew, Paul brought his kids out into the ocean and taught them all to surf. When he wasn't talking about teaching, or playing guitar, Paul spoke of chasing the perfect wave. His ride of choice was his body board.Paul is survived by his wife Dominique, daughter Nicole and three sons Eric, Michael, and Jaesen. Paul was a grandparent to 4 grandchildren who will remember him as a teacher, a musician, a surfer, and a man who loved his family.A memorial service is planned for early April.
