Stanley, Paul L. 91, of Scottsdale, AZ, was called to heaven on January 14, 2017. He is preceded in death by parents Luther and Bertha, siblings Ray, Gill, and Nadine, and son Mark. Paul was born on April 2, 1925 in Clifton Forge, Virginia. After graduating from high school in 1942, Paul joined the United States Army Air Forces. He served as a bombardier in the latter part of World War II, and then returned to Virginia in 1945 to work as a machinist on the C&O Railroad. He then attended Marshall College in Huntington, West Virginia and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology in 1951. He became an ordained minister on April 20, 1952. From 1952 to 1960, Paul was pastor at churches in Oklahoma, Missouri, and Washington and received a Master's Degree in Theology from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1954. He and his wife, Lois, married on June 4, 1956, in Carthage, Missouri, and had two sons: Mark and Phillip. Paul re-joined the United States Air Force in 1960 and served as a chaplain until his military retirement in 1977, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. After his retirement from the military, Paul received a Master's degree in Psychology and a Doctorate in Pastoral Counseling. He relocated to Ventura, California where he began a new career with the Southern Baptist Association as a marriage and family counselor and interim pastor to local churches as needed. In 1993, he retired and later moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. Paul is survived by his wife Lois; son Phillip; daughter-in-law Elaine; grandchildren Kristine, Celeste, and Evan; and great-grandchildren Rylan and Logan. All family and friends are invited to attend Paul's memorial service at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Chaparral Christian Church, 6451 East Shea Boulevard, Scottsdale, AZ 85254. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
