Paul M. BensonCandler - Paul M. Benson, 91, of Candler, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the CarePartners Solace Center.Paul was born on September 9, 1926, in Madison, WI, to the late Gustave and Mabel Benson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen Humleker and Martha Hase.Mr. Benson was baptized at Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Madison. He graduated from East High School and from the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He spent the majority of his career working in foundries. He retired from Eaton Foundry in Cynthiana, KY, as a metallurgist in 1990.Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and in Japan from 1944 to 1946, earning the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church since 1994. In his freetime, he loved square dancing, traveling and camping.Paul had a wonderful life with good Christian parents and wife, Andre. They had just celebrated their 63rd anniversary on October 2, 2017. In addition to Mrs. Benson, he is survived by six children, Amy King (Barry), of Candler, and Lori Benson, of Candler, Eric Benson (Connie), of Miami Shores, FL, Craig Benson (Alison) of Washington, D.C., Bruce Benson, of Candler, and Paul Benson (Clydena) of Georgetown, KY; grandchildren, Cody King, Grace and Kelly Benson, Javier and Margaret Benson, and Haven Benson.The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael McFarland officiating.
