Paul M. Campbell Obituary

Sep 14, 1954 - Apr 12, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Paul M. Campbell, Jr.A lifelong Delaware resident, died on April 12, 2017 at his home in Bellefonte, after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 14, 1954, to the late Paul M. Sr. and Marie J. (Morris) Campbell. Paul attended St. Helena's parochial school and Mt. Pleasant Senior HS where he excelled in several sports, but his love was always football. Because of his size and strength he always played Varsity and defense as Tackle. Paul played in the Blue Gold game his senior year, 1972. Throughout his entire life, sports was always more than a hobby, it was his life. He never tired of watching any game on TV or listening to sports talk radio. He was an authority on all sports, with an opinion on everything. Paul served in the Air Force for 2 years, stationed in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands, which suited his love for adventure and the out of doors. It was in the Air Force that he was trained as a diesel engine mechanic, a trade that served him well throughout his working career. After the Air Force, Paul was chosen from 2000 applicants to accompany 20 scientists to Antarctica for 1 year; he operated the entire mechanical plant while the scientists conducted their experiments. He was chosen because of his excellent health, skills, and ability to adjust to a very difficult environment. During the rest of his career, he worked at several area companies, managing their properties, the last 22 years at Jones Lang LaSalle. One of Paul's greatest loves was fishing. One of his favorite places to fish was Outer Banks. He was never one to miss the opportunity to cast his line anywhere. But his greatest love was his family, his wife Joanne, and his two sons Seth and Jack. Paul spent many years coaching basketball and soccer for his sons' teams. He also volunteered where ever needed, which meant running the sidelines and cooking hotdogs. Paul is survived by wife of 35 years, Joanne Piretti Campbell, and 2 sonds, Seth and Jack. Also survived by 4 sisters, Linda DiSabatino (Mark), Barbara Campbell (Bill Levens), Eileen Campbell (Tom Morabito), and Mary Stanton (Michael); 3 sisters-in-law, Deborah Piretti (Bruce Bellingham), Toni Piretti, and Kate Piretti; brother-in-law, Joe Piretti (Eileen). Also survived by nieces and nephews.A celebration of life will be held at Bellevue State Park at 3pm on the 21st of April, 2017.The pavilion near the fishing pond has been reserved for the occasion.
