FREMONT — Paul James Edward Mattern, age 67, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away Monday, April 25, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana, with his family by his side. He was born on June 7, 1948, in Wauseon, Ohio, to Veryl E. and Wilma (Cottrell) Mattern. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Waldron High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the
Vietnam War. He had worked for Dana-Weatherhead, Angola, Indiana, Fayette Tubular, Fayette, Ohio, and Tenneco Automotive, Fremont, Indiana. He married Lee Anne Oxenger at the Clear Lake Baptist Church on June 30, 1984. He was member of the Fremont American Legion Cassel Post 257, and a member of the Clear Lake Bible Church. He enjoyed riding his tractor, and his lawn mower, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Lee Anne Mattern of Fremont, Indiana; his three daughters, Cheryl Carrington of McBain, Michigan, Sandy (Tom) Kern of Hudson, Michigan, and Lindy Baldwin (Tim Reynolds) of Gobles, Michigan; six grandchildren, Nathanial Hull, Amanda (Nathan) Burlew, Emily Kern, Chandler Kern, Anna Carrington, Aaron (Leah) Carrington, and Ryan Reynolds; two great-grandchildren, Uriah Burlew and Kailey Burlew; and a sister, Carol Jean Clark and her companion Joe Grimes of Fayette, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Pastor Voyle Hartleroad officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion Color Guard. Calling hours will be held prior to the services from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Beams Funeral Home.
