PAUL R. RHODES, 85 FREEPORT - Paul R. Rhodes, 85, of Freeport passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, in Freeport. He was born on Feb. 1, 1928, in Lee County, IL, the youngest of ten children of Frank and Mabel (Phillips) Rhodes. Paul married Elizabeth A. Luna on Sept. 19, 1953, at St. James Catholic Church in Rockford. He was a retired meat cutter, working for many years at The National Tea Co. After retirement, he worked part-time at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Paul was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Moose Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, and hunting. He was a Bears fan and a lifelong Cubs fan. He also volunteered at the FACC food pantry. Surviving are his daughter, Kathy (Jim) Brokhausen of Freeport; sons, Steve (Mary) Rhodes of Watertown, WI and Dennis (Kim) Rhodes of Winnebago; grandchildren, Tracy (Mike) Wilson, Kelly Rhodes, Kevin Rhodes, Gavin Rhodes, and Austin Rhodes; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death was his wife on May 30, 2012; his parents; daughter, Denise Rhodes; infant grandson, Owen Dennis Rhodes; four brothers; and five sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 21, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Monsignor P. William McDonnell officiating. Visitation will be at the church after 10 a.m. on Friday until the time of service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in his memory for St. Thomas Aquinas Church, the FHN Foundation, Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson's Research, or charity of your choice.
