Paul Derwin Vander Weele, 86, of Oostburg, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.Paul was born on December 25, 1930, in the Town of Holland, son of John and Henrietta (Graven) Vander Weele. He lived on the family farm on Smies Road until moving into Oostburg. He attended Lakeview School on Sauk Trail Road in the Town of Holland. On June 2, 1964, he married Linda Mentink in Oostburg. Paul was employed as a spray painter at Gilson for 37 years until his retirement in 1996. During his retirement he worked at the family grocery, Mentink's Piggly Wiggly.Paul was a member of First Reformed Church of Oostburg, where he sang in the church choir and involved in the recording ministry for the shut ins. Paul was a faithful Christian man, reading his bible and praying everyday. Paul was also a member of the Pine Haven's Men Chorus. He was an avid gardener. He loved his plants and feeding the birds in his backyard sanctuary. He was also a plant tester for several nurseries. Planting, growing and reporting on the plant hardiness. Paul was a loving husband, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and neighbor. He was always in good spirits and enjoyed visiting with people of all ages. Paul was a humble and quick witted man who was a caregiver to many and loved by all who knew him.Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda; one sister-in-law, Lee (Ken) Simmelink of Elizabethton, TN, and one brother-in-law, Dale Brasser of Manitowoc; several nieces and nephews, Lance Mentink, Nancy Vander Jagt, Scott (Carol) Mentink, Kendal (Lori) Mentink, Jay (Sue) Mentink, Melissa (Tim) Kildea, Christopher (Michelle) Mentink, Weson Gizaw, Corey Gizaw, Dean (Barb) Brasser, Bob (Peggy) Brasser, Julee (Tim) Barnett, Kim (Pam) Simmelink, Pam (Christopher) Yarberry, and Lisa (Ken) Wilson. He is furthered survived by numerous great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Stuart (Eleanor) Mentink and one sister-in-law, Judith Brasser.Funeral services to celebrate Paul's life will be held at The Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 6pm with Rev. Brain Taylor officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland.Relatives and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 4pm until the time of service at 6pm.A memorial fund has been established in Paul's name for First Reformed Church.The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Pastor Brian Taylor, Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, Sheboygan Progressive Care Center and the Sharon S.
