Amityville, NY - Mrs. Pauleene Fields, lovingly known as “Lee,” passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, in her home surrounded by her sister, in NY, after a courageous battle with chronic illness. She was 96 years old.
Longtime well-known resident of Suffolk County, she was born on October 8, 1928, in Amityville, NY, Lee was known for her spirited personality, sharp wit, and unwavering kindness. She was known for speaking the whole truth and didn't hold back while doing it, but she had a heart full of love and generosity. She was a dedicated member of Hollywood Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a Deaconess, food panty organizer, and neighborhood awareness advocate.
Lee was determined, resilient, hilariously funny, a neighborhood activist and a beloved School teacher She would open her door to help anyone in need and was loved by everyone she came in contact with. Her passion was in church fundraising events or any event to help a neighborhood improvement cause. She especially loved to drive her white rag top Cadillac eldorado around town, because she loved all eyes on her.
Early Life and Education
Lee was the next to the oldest of five sisters and two brothers. She attended and volunteered at Amityville high school. Through her years of volunteering, she touched the heart of many and enjoyed watching her neighborhood grow up and flourish though the years. She also had a deep curiosity for medicine and home remedies, often referring to medical books and acting as the family’s “personal triage nurse” before sending anyone to the doctor.
A Life of Adventure and Hard Work
Ms. Lee embraced life with energy and determination. As a devoted study abroad assistant teacher, she traveled across the country and abroad, living in West Malling, United Kingdom for three years, before moving to Lakehurst, New Jersey, for another three. She then spent three years in Patuxent River, Maryland before finally settling back in New York and fully retired
Hobbies & Interests
Ms. Lee joys in life included watching sports especially football, cooking, baking, shoe shopping, gardening, and catching up with her friends and sisters on a weekly basis. She also loved whole heartedly, attending church events and picking up people to attend her local church and community events.
In the last decade of her life, she found joy and relaxation in traveling to visit her grand kids and seeing places outside of New York. She especially enjoyed a good share of her histoires with the new generation and to show the difference of how things came about.
Family & Loved Ones
Lee was preceded in death by her longtime partner and best friend of 50 yrs Greggory Smalls, Her parents, Mary Anne Stonaker- Fields, Acie Coleman Fields Sr., her siblings, Mae Fields, Gloria Dillion Fields, Lillie Bell Cooke, and baby brother Acie Coleman Fields Jr.
She leaves behind a devoted family who loved and cherished her deeply: Daughter: Michelle Fields- Womack of the home. Son: Edmund Terrell Fields, Sr. A host of: Fields, Stubble, Herny, Slade last named nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Brittney Jones-Williamson, her dedicated caregiver, and Dr. James Moore office for their compassionate care.
A Legacy of Strength & Love
Lee's, legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a beloved matriarch whose memory will forever be cherished.
Public viewing will begin on Friday, February 26, 2025, from 12 until 6 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, 67 Broadway, Amityville, NY.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. from the Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, NC. The family visitation will take place at 12 p.m. Pastor Eugene William Harold, Eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Amityville Cemetery, NY.
The family will receive friends at 69 Lick Fork Drive, Amityville, NY.
