Peggy Cody Stein passed away on October 11, in Los Alamos, New Mexico. She was 86. Peggy was born on July 5, 1928 to Orvel and Vera Cody in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Peggy had a large extended family, and she loved to tell stories about the flamboyant characters from her family history. In 1947, Peggy met and married William (Bill) Stein. The young couple moved to Los Alamos in 1949, and together they raised four children. Peggy drove generations of Los Alamos school children on her bus, and she was proud of her service to the school district. Peggy loved summer activities. As a young mother, she was an avid golfer, and she could be found most mornings hitting a quick nine holes. Later, the Steins became one of the founding families of the Canyon Vista Pool Association in White Rock. Peggy was a life-long gardener and a passionate cook. Peggy cherished family meal times, and she delighted in creating sumptuous feasts using traditional family recipes. Peggy will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Bill. She is survived by her four children: William Stein, Jr. and his wife Connie, Susan Stephens, Richard Stein, and James Stein and his wife Veronica Rodriguez. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Penny Stephens, Megan Stephens, and Joshua Stein, as well as her three great-grandchildren: Randy McCarthy, Rheanna Granich, and Anthony Harvey.The family is grateful for the care provided to Peggy by the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses Services and the staff at Aspen Ridge Lodge. The family is especially grateful for the care and comfort given by Dr. James Ziomek, Peggy's personal physician. Peggy and Bill's ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico at a later date.
