POMARIA — Melvin Eugene "Pete" Meetze, 78, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at Richland Heart Hospital.
Mr. Meetze was born on July 22, 1938 in Newberry County, a son of the late C.J. "Moses" and Frances Erline Shealy Meetze.
Mr. Meetze had retired after 30 years from the S.C. Highway Department. He was a member of St. Philip's Lutheran Church where he was an active member of the Faithful Servants Sunday School Class. He was a 1957 graduate of Pomaria High School and a member of Woodmen Life Chapter 1054. Mr. Meetze enjoyed scouting and was heavily active in Pack 76 and received numerous awards and recognitions.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Judy Allen Meetze; sons, James Patrick "Pat" Meetze and Scott Allen (Marsha) Meetze of Pomaria; grandsons, Ethan and Benjamin Meetze; sister-in-law, Cathy Meetze; and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meetze was predeceased by brothers, Howard Earl and Floyd Meetze.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2016 at St. Philip's Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
