Peter D. ThomasRICHMOND, Ind. - Peter David Thomas, 61, of Columbus, Ohio, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011. He was born on March 15, 1950, in Richmond, Ind., to the late Raysor and Ruth Huell-Thomas. He attended Richmond Senior High School. Peter was known for his laughter and his huge sense of humor. No one who met him was a stranger. His barbecue was known by so many in Richmond and Columbus. It wasn't unusual during the summer to smell his sauce every Friday as he barbecued; he drew crowds of people. He loved people in general, loved James Brown and loved the Notre Dame football team. He wore his team cap everywhere he went. He always helped out his family and friends. He carried a free spirit attitude that was contagious in his laughter. He loved fishing and would travel to his secret ponds, Lake Erie, Mich., and as far as Canada to fish. Peter was a hard worker and worked for Roy Gabbard Cleaning Services before leaving Richmond. While in Columbus, Ohio, he worked for Jacobson Co. as an order fulfillment representative, Lilly Owens Ford, D.S.C. and North American Van Lines.Peter leaves to cherish his memory two sons, William and Kyle of Indianapolis, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Tracie Morris of Indianapolis; three granddaughters, Jessica Thomas, Haley Bennett and Amaia Thomas of Indianapolis; one grandson, Trenton Thomas of Indianapolis; four brothers, William (Rutha) of Huntsville, Ala., Stanley (Rita) of Richmond, Michael of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Charles of Richmond; seven sisters, Rena Gibson of Huntsville, Ala., Gae Anne Williams (Albert Sr.) of Richmond, Karen Thomas of San Diego, Calif., Shirley Thomas of Erlanger, Ky. Mary Thomas of Silver Springs, Md., Virgina Davis of Richmond and Tommie Tean Easley (Brian) of Bethlehem, Pa.; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Also, a very special friend, Kay McCallister of Columbus, Ohio.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 1431 S. 14th St., Richmond, Ind.
