Maria Petra "Nila" Sanchez was born on March 17, 1912, in Anton Chico. She was the daughter of Aurelia Lucero and Pedro Jose Sanchez, life-long residents of Upper Anton Chico. At 99 years of age, Nila peacefully joined the Lord on March 21, 2011, in San Diego, Calif., at the home of her daughter Tina, where she had lived for the previous 16 years. Nila was the widow of Bonifacio "Boni" Marquez and they had four children together. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting and watching television with her children. She always admired President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She survived her parents, her siblings, her former husband, her infant son, David, and her daughter, Gloria Marquez. Nila Sanchez survived six siblings including Maria, Miguel, Melquiades, Fabian, Ramon, and Vicenta S. Martinez. Her daughter Tina Marquez-C.de Baca recently passed away on Oct. 14, 2012, in San Diego.Nila's loving daughter, Perla Marquez-Jorgensen of Salt Lake City, Utah, survives. She is survived by 13 grandchildren, including her faithful Michael Gutierrez, 20 great-grandchildren, including her loyal Jett Cabeza de Baca and her watchful caregiver Steve Oelke, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews including Casey Martinez recently of Clovis and his children Trini and Tony Martinez of Las Vegas, Nev., who were very dear to her heart. The family held Catholic services soon after her passing and her remains have returned home for burial with family at St. Joseph [San Jose] Catholic Cemetery in Anton Chico at noon, on Saturday, April 6. The family will meet for a brief reception at "Charlie's Spic & Span" café about 2 p.m. in Las Vegas.
