Philip J. YannichAGE: 104 • Green BrookPhilip J. Yannich, 104, of Green Brook, NJ passed away on December 16, 2016, peacefully in his sleep at Brandywine Senior Living in Bridgewater. Phil was born on July 11, 1912 in Jersey City to Angelo and Rachele Yannich.He worked on Wall Street running numbers for the stock exchange at age 17. In his younger years, Phil was dancing at the Roseland Ballroom, swimming in the Hudson River and truck driving for a family business. In 1942 he was inducted into the US Army Air Corp. In 1943 Phil married Helen Shalkowski. While serving in the military, he trained at the
University of Minnesota and attended the school of Aeronautical Electronics where he completed a course in Engine Line Maintenance at the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Service School. He was later stationed in the Azores. Phil worked for Airco Welding Products, Inc. for over thirty years and retired in 1976.During his retirement he enjoyed watching baseball, harness racing and hanging out at Liberty Park with his cousin. You could always find him singing and dancing to big band music. At age 100, Phil pitched the first ball at a NJ Somerset Patriots game with Sparky Lyle.Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Angelo and Rachele; his sisters, Carmella, Maria, Lucia and his son, Philip J. Yannich, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Bollmann and her husband, Mark; his son, Ronald Yannich, his daughter-in-law Marthe Yannich, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildrenA Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John's R.C. Church in Dunellen on Wednesday December 21st at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.
