Philip N. JohnsonPRINCEVILLE - Philip Nordgren Johnson, 81, of Princeville passed away peacefully at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL, on Friday, January 27, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.He was born on January 9, 1936, in Kewanee, the son of Joel A. and Mabel (Magnuson) Johnson. Phil attended Wyoming High School before graduating from pharmacy school at Drake University (Des Moines, IA) in 1958. That same year he married his high school sweetheart, Sayra (Foster), on July 27, 1958. They resided in Wyoming, IL, for one year before moving to Princeville, where they lived for the next 54 years, until relocating to Morton in 2014.Phil owned and operated Foster & Son Drugstore in Princeville, where he spent a career devoted to the service of that wonderful community. He was a member of many local civic and national organizations, including Kiwanis, Lion's Club, Princeville Lodge #360 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Mohammad Shrine Temple, Central Illinois Pharmaceutical Association, Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, Princeville United Methodist Church, and served on the Board of Directors of the Princeville Medical Center. He was a sports enthusiast and was a fan of the Bears and White Sox (and not of the Cubs). He was especially fond of tennis, which he played whenever he could find a willing partner. He also loved to take photographs of people, forcing family to pose for weekly Sunday pictures, and of local students at athletic and musical performances, which he would then give to their mothers when they came to his store. He also had an affinity for music, often whistling or harmonizing to background melodies. Phil sang in the church choir for many years and all that knew him would attest that he always had a song in his heart.Philip was a selfless man, a wonderful and devoted husband and an involved and proud father. He developed strong and lifelong friendships with high school and college classmates and later with neighbors and other community members. He so enjoyed being "a man about town," and you could not pass him on the street without receiving a greeting and a smile. He will be sadly missed, but happily remembered by family, friends and even casual acquaintances.Phil is survived by his wife, Sayra; three children, Justin (Alissa) Johnson of Harrington Park, NJ, Whitney (Mark) Pfeifer of Morton, IL, and Adrienne (Scott) Martens of Naperville, IL; his eight grandchildren, Hannah, Jillian and Ally Johnson, Kylie, Jacqueline and John Pfeifer and Meredith and Luke Martens; and his brother, Pete (Carol) Johnson of Wyoming, IL.Cremation has been accorded and a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Princeville United Methodist Church.
