UNRAU, Philippine: Philippine "Peony" Unrau passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Dec. 15, 2016 in Kelowna, BC. Peony was born on Dec. 6, 1921 in Debelowka, Poland to Philipp & Philippine (Launhardt) Ritthaler. Following WWII she immigrated to Canada in 1949 to work on her aunt's farm in Yorkton, Sask. She later moved to Ontario, worked there as a nurse, married John Harder and had two children. Peony became a widow and then married her current husband, Joachim Unrau on August 31, 1957, with whom she had two children and to whom she was married for 59 years. In 1975 they moved to the sunny Okanagan Valley. Philippine is survived by her husband, Joachim Unrau of Kelowna, BC, daughter Alma (John) Dudzic of Hamilton, ON, daughter Erna Harder of Kelowna, BC, son William (Theresa) Unrau of Kelowna, BC, daughter Doris Unrau of Kelowna, BC; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The memorial service was held at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship, 3714 Gordon Dr., Kelowna, BC on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, Kelowna, BC. The family would like to thank her doctor for extraordinary care and also the very caring staff at Hospice House for making her final days more comfortable.
