Balcastro, Phillip P.Phillip P. Balcastro, age 58, of Shelton, beloved husband of Barbara Jean (Traver) Balcastro, of 33 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at The Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Mr. Balcastro was born on October 15, 1958 in Bridgeport, son of the late Isadore Balcastro and Theresa (Denton) Balcastro and had been a lifetime area resident. Phillip was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the 1st Battalion, 13th Armor in Germany and later was a retired road construction supervisor. Phillip was a very devoted man to his family, and his enjoyment included entertaining at his home and spending time with family and friends. Phillip also enjoyed going to concerts, going on road trips and traveling. He was also an avid fisherman and outdoors-man. Phillip honored his Italian heritage and loved to cook. He also enjoyed working in the yard and home repair projects. Phillip was a fan of the New England Patriots and loved football. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his three children, Yvonne Negron and her husband Jerry, Vincienzo Balcastro and his wife, Annie and Jacquelyn Balcastro; four grandchildren, Vincienzo "Sonny" Balcastro, Gia Negron, Matthew Wernis and Samuel Wernis; his sisters, Albertina Becker (and the late Joseph Becker), Phyllis Cooper and her husband Patrick, Carly Balcastro and Amber Balcastro; and brother, Isadore Balcastro and his wife Carmen; godchildren, Michael Lennon, Joseph Becker, Jr., Angelina Culver and Michael Bristol and many beloved nieces and nephews. The Balcastro Family would like to extend to their heartfelt thanks to all family and friends who were beside him during his 18 month battle with cancer; the staff of The Yale Smilow Cancer Center in Fairfield, Connecticut, Dr. Neal Fischbach, Dr. Christopher Ianuzzi and the staff of Connecticut Hospice for the excellent healthcare provided to him with such love and tenderness. Friends may visit with his family on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. by meeting directly at St. James Church, 2070 Main Street, Stratford.
