Phillip M. Geddes Obituary

Dec 05, 1950 - Feb 04, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Phillip M. Geddes12/05/1950 - 02/04/2014Phillip Miles Geddes, 63, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Portneuf Medical Center, in Pocatello, Idaho. Phil was born on December 5, 1950. It was his mother's birthday. She was Sarah Miles Geddes. She always made Phil feel so special and told everyone that he was the best birthday gift she could have ever been given. Phil also had a special relationship with his father, Hugh J. Geddes who taught him how to think independently, 'do things his way', work hard, and most importantly, how to fish!Phil loved the community of Banida and the closeness he felt with the people there. As a child, he told of having not just one mother, but many who helped to nurture him, making him the man he was. He was in the Idaho National Guard for eight years. While there he made many lifelong friends. He also served as a full time missionary in the best mission in the world, the Cumorah Mission in New York.Phil married Judy Sibbett on November 26, 1976 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He always teased, "That's the day I told you I loved you, if I change my mind, I'll let you know." He must have meant it because they soon had four wonderful children, Jake, Luke, Jessi, and Hugh. They were truly the loves of his life. Phil loved the Gray's Lake Valley where he spend lots of time helping his father-in-law Glade on the family ranch. They spent many hours together witching water, raising cattle, trading horses, putting up hay, and shootin' the breeze. He loved the youth and spent many hours camping and fishing with them. He loved his church callings, especially those that involved the youth. He recently purchased a laptop determined to fulfill his calling as a Sunday School teacher. He has also served as Elder's Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Young Men's President, Scout Leader, and Primary Teacher. He was a very willing servant of our Heavenly Father. He was very smart, and able to fix anything. He learned by doing, and then became a master of that task. Perhaps that's why he was always RIGHT! We all learned early not to argue with him over things because you would never win. Something wonderful happed to Phil when the grandchildren arrived. Oh he was still RIGHT, but those kids had a way of making him feel so content and happy. And he had a way of making each of them feel so special. Phil passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2014 at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho after surgery. He was greeted by his parents Hugh J. and Sarah Geddes, his little brother Jack and his wife Christy, ad his father-in-law Glade Sibbett and many other loved family members. He is survived by his wife Judy, of Banida, ID; Jake (Shannon) Geddes, of Downey, ID; Luke Geddes, of Elma, WA; Jessi (Jeff) Breckenkamp, of Weston, ID; and Hugh (Kathleen) Geddes, of Tenino, WA; nine of the most beautiful grandchildren every born, Andee, Sadie, Jaynee, Alexie, Kale, Max, Glad, Lillie, and little Hugh. He is also survived by his sister Carol (Richard) Pilgrim, of Woods Cross, UT; and his brothers Miles (Josephine) Geddes, of Banida, and Jeddie (LaDawn) Geddes of Preston, ID. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Winder Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Alan Atkinson conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church in Winder.
