Phyllis Cook BennettHolden, UT3/12/1926 ~ 3/26/2017Phyllis Cook Bennett age 91, passed away of natural causes at her home in Holden, Utah on Sunday March 26, 2017 with her immediate family at her bedside. She was born on March 12, 1926 to Lucene Clark Cook and Echo Rose Sampson Cook in Delta, Utah.As a young girl growing up in Delta mom had a very happy childhood. Even though times were hard and money short she always felt loved by her parents and siblings. Her mother Echo passed away when she was 14 years old, so she quit school and went to work at Baker Drug in Delta for a while, and then moved to Salt Lake City for employment to help her father provide money for the family. Some things she remembered about her childhood are - She was always afraid of water, so she cried all the way through her baptism as she was afraid to have her face covered in that much water. She also had a dream of being a movie star someday and would do her own acting to the joy of her brothers laughing at her as they watched and teased her. While she was working in Salt Lake City, Phyllis met Robert Carl Bennett and the fell in love after a short, courtship and were married in Salt Lake City on January 7, 1946. A reception after the marriage was held that evening at Billy Van's dance hall in Delta, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on May 28, 1948. They enjoyed 51 years of very happy marriage and raised four wonderful children. During their married time Carl worked out of town in Insulation Construction and Phyllis worked on and took care of the farm in Holden along with Aunt Delma. Before Carl retired they built a cabin up east of Holden with the help of sons, son in law and grandsons, which has been a great joy and place of relaxation for the entire family. Many fun get togethers and family reunions have taken place at the Bennett cabins. Mom and Dad loved to go ice fishing, you could often find them with his brother, Uncle Fred and Aunt Delma on the ice or on the shore line of many reservoirs in Utah. Those two couples were almost inseparable during their happy life times.Mom and Dad served an 18 month mission in the Florida Tallahassee Mission from January 1983 to July 1984. After Carl's passing she served in the Manti Temple for over five years. She was also Holden Ward Relief Society President, Compassionate Service Leader, Primary worker and other callings as asked.
