Phyllis ParkerRedding, CA 1925 - 2017Phyllis Dell Parker, 91, passed peacefully at her home in Redding, on March 23, 2017, with family by her side.In 2002, Phyllis was preceded in death by Douglas, her loving husband of 57 years. Later in life, Phyllis met Ray Perkins, a dear friend and companion; Ray passed in June 2016.Phyllis was born on July 28, 1925 in Aberdeen, SD, first child of Adelbert and Myrtle (Bennett) Nelson. As a young girl, Phyllis lived on the family ranch near Billings, MT. As a teenager, her family moved to Salem, OR. Phyllis was a student at Willamette University when she met Naval officer Douglas Parker, he was attending the ROTC program, they married in April 1945. Phyllis and Doug settled in Ukiah, CA in 1952. Phyllis was a pre-school teacher for many years. She was the quintessential homemaker; a wonderful cook, winning several awards; she made and decorated beautiful cakes, including multi-tiered wedding cakes for family and friends. She loved reading, sewing, gardening and her family. When she and Doug retired in 1980, they bought an Airstream trailer, enjoying travel, camping and site seeing throughout the country. In 2000, they moved to Redding to be closer to their "kids".Phyllis was a kind, loving and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be forever missed by her "kids", Bob (Becky) Parker of Chico and Janie (Rob) Painter of Mt. Shasta, her grand-kids Alison (Patrick) Carland, Greg (Rebecca) Painter, Jessica Parker/Ron Schuler and Sarah (Landon) Gibson, and her great grand-kids Kali & Parker Gibson and Veronica Carland.Phyllis is also survived by her sister Geraldine Jahnke, Sedona, AZ and her brother Bennett Nelson, Scio, OR, plus her many nieces and nephews.Memorial services will be held for Phyllis at the First Presbyterian Church (2315 Placer St) at 11 am on April 21, 2017, luncheon following.
