Phyllis DowdellPhyllis Dowdell, 88, died at Essentia Hospital of complications of pneumonia and heart attack Oct. 5, 2017. She and her husband of sixty-six years, Tom Dowdell, have lived at Touchmark at Harwood Groves for eleven years, coming to Fargo from Washington DC to "chase grandchildren."Phyllis was born on April 1, 1929 in Vineland, NJ, to Fred and Alma Snyder. In 1950 she graduated from Cedar Crest College, Allentown, PA with a degree in Home Economics. Cedar Crest is where she met her future husband, Tom, and they married at Tom's graduation at Lehigh Univ. in 1951. Phyllis had one brother, Dr. Fred Snyder, Jr., who died of cancer in 1953. Phyllis and Tom have four children: Linda (married to Ron Thomson), living in Sequim, WA; Annuel Preston, Seattle, WA; Tom, Jr. (married to Christine), Fargo ND; Andrew (married to Andrea), San Pedro, CA. Grandchildren: Ross and Elliot Preston (Seattle); Colin and Paula Dowdell (San Pedro CA); David and Philip Dowdell (Fargo). Phyllis and Tom lived in many places during their married life: Haddonfield NJ, Aberdeen MD, Oreland PA (Philadelphia), Louisville KY, Short Hills NJ, Palos Verdes CA, Washington D.C. and Fargo ND. Wherever she went, Phyllis brought love and cheer to people she met. She taught home economics at Haddonfield High School and at South Orange High School, both in New Jersey. In Southern California she assisted in the operations of a successful catering service, 'Uniquely Yours." In Washington D.C. she was a member of Quicksilver, a modern dance group for seniors. In every location Phyllis was active in church life and neighborhood gatherings, always sharing the joys and needs of her friends and relatives.It is suggested that memorial gifts be made to First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Fifth St. S, Moorhead, MN 56560.A Memorial Service will be held at Touchmark at Harwood Groves on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at 2PM to celebrate Phyllis' life.
