FORT WAYNE — Phyllis M. Pufahl, 87, of Fort Wayne and previously of Angola died of natural causes on Monday, September 14, 2015, in Fort Wayne. Phyllis was born on October 28, 1926, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, to Gertrude and Elmer Udkler. She graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1944 where she was known for her musical talents. Phyllis had one sister, Mary Rogers of Madison Wisconsin, who predeceased her. She worked in the office of the Rhinelander Paper Mill until she married Ronald W. Pufahl, also of Rhinelander, in 1946. After marrying, Phyllis studied bookkeeping and was subsequently employed as a bookkeeper. She and Ronald moved to Angola in 1952 where she lived until moving to Fort Wayne in 2012. Here greatest passions were being a homemaker and raising her children. She painted her homes inside and out, upholstered furniture, sewed drapes, gardened, canned, sewed the family clothing, cooked, baked and decorated cakes to her heart's content. She was a member of two bridge clubs, BPW, Miller's Addition Tuesday Lunch Bunch, a progressive dinner group, Susanna Wesley Circle and Angola United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and preschool. During 15 years of living in Miller's Addition, it was known by the neighborhood children that they could come to her home anytime for cookies from her cookie jar. For several years Phyllis designed and knit hundreds of afghans for family and friends. She and her "Lunch Bunch" friends enjoyed doing many kinds of crafts. Her friends were very dear to her. Phyllis's husband, Ronald, predeceased her in 1997 and she is survived by four children, Ronica R. (Allan) Dye of Jacksonville, Florida, David M. (Lila) Pufahl of Fort Wayne, Rebecca J. Brown of Kendallville and Aaron Pufahl of Fort Wayne. Phyllis is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the Angola United Methodist Church with visitation from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
