Pierre Jean Bélizaire, known affectionately as Jr., passed away on September 23, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on May 21, 1932, in Petion-Ville, Haiti, he spent his later years in Miami, Florida.
Pierre’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love for family, passion for music, and a profound commitment to his heritage. He was the proud husband of Esther Marie Bélizaire and cherished father to his beloved children: Antoinette, Lovelie, Daniel, and Augustin. His family brought him endless joy, and he found immense pleasure in walking his grandkids through the sugarcane fields, playing soccer, and dancing to the oldies of Frankie Beverly & Maze and The Temptations.
Fluent in multiple languages, including Creole, Spanish, and French, Pierre was a cultural bridge, sharing stories from his life in Haiti and his journey to America. He was the first in his family to pursue higher education, earning a degree that led to his careers as a farmer, musician, and math teacher. His dedication to education extended beyond the classroom, as he returned to Haiti to build schools and homes for those in need, leaving an indelible mark on his community.
Pierre was known for his strong, humble spirit and his deep faith as a Catholic. He embraced life with a strong work ethic and a love for simple pleasures, spending countless hours on his front porch with a jukebox and domino table. His favorite foods—griot, curry goat, and djon djon—were often enjoyed in the company of loved ones.
Pierre is survived by his siblings, Etienne and Djanm Bélizaire, and his legacy continues through his children and grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his spirit. He had a unique ability to inspire those around him, often sharing memorable quotes and stories that resonated with everyone he met.
His proudest moments were often found in the laughter and accomplishments of his family, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Pierre Jean Bélizaire leaves behind not just a family, but a community forever touched by his kindness, wisdom, and love.
