Presciliano "Percy" Madrid, 77, a longtime resident of Las Vegas passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014.He was born on Sept. 6, 1936 in San Rafael to the late Valentine and Odilia Madrid.He was united in marriage to Nora Madrid on Aug. 29,1959 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. A Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Percy moved to Las Vegas at the age of five. He attended all his school years in Las Vegas. He attended Las Vegas High, now Robertson High School and West Las Vegas High School. He was an all-star basketball player during his high school years. He also enjoyed track and went to state track during his junior and senior years. He graduated from West Las Vegas High School in 1955. Right after graduation, he joined the
United States Navy. He was stationed in Hawaii and Guam aboard the USS Osborne. He retired on Aug. 16, 2001 after working for Furr's Super Market for 20 years. After retirement he loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren, the love of his life. He was an avid reader and enjoyed walking and talking to people he knew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Odilia Madrid, brother, Alejandro Madrid; sisters, Dolores Madrid, Flora Cartwright, Fela Pacheco, Drucilla Quintana, Paulie Vialpando; half-sister, Julia Garcia and half -brother, Perfecto Madrid, mother-in-law, Maria (Hena) Maes; father-in-law, Antonio Maes; brother-in-law, Ernie Maes; and nephews, Tony Madrid and Peter Vailpando.He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Nora Madrid of 55 years; daughter, Michelle (Jacque) Marquez and husband, Floyd, of Santa Fe; son, Michael Madrid and wife, Melynda, of Albuquerque; very special friend, Corrine Crespin of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Floyd and Shantelle Marquez, Matias and Mia Madrid; sisters, Della Trujillo of Montezuma, Marjorie Madrid of Las Vegas, Petra McClure and husband, Howard, of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Dan Maes and wife, Nora, Eloy Maes and wife, Eileen, all of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Mable Montoya of Bernalillo, Lillian Baca of Las Vegas, and Judy Maes of Española. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Monday) at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas with funeral services to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday also at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Robert Peccatiello as celebrant. Cremation has taken place at his request. Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
